Frances Young
Art Tutor

MDM, Grad Dip Tchg (Sec)

Frances first came to Māpura Studios in 2010 as an art student in a mixed ability pilot programme. She so much enjoyed mixing with the wide variety of people she met in her class that after achieving a secondary school art teaching qualification in 2011 she began volunteering, later becoming a permanent arts facilitator at Māpura.
Frances first studied for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Elam to learn as many media and technical skills as possible. Her career in the creative industries spans 35 years and includes animation, theatre, film and television, and for the last 20 years graphic design, winning national and international accolades for her work.
She later achieved a Masters degree in Design Management, writing her thesis on creativity in the workplace. She believes creativity evolved in every human being, and is passionate about reconnecting people with their creative abilities through art.
Frances enjoys helping people, and feels privileged to be able to bring pleasure to people’s lives by facilitating their art. Frances is a practising artist, currently painting, sculpting, and learning welding.
