Figures in Place is part funded by John Logan Campbell Residuary Trust.
This class is designed to further develop the knowledge base and technical skills of our artists in drawing and painting the human figure.   Senior Tutor Arie Hellendoorn reports that at the beginning of the term, students began to develop a range of ways in which to draw and paint the figure within the context of a room; using human models as subject matter. Students have been drawing the same subject matter, but it has been amazing to see such a diverse range of styles evolving and each student has developed their own unique way of drawing the human figure. A great example is Khi Chen.  Khi is a new student to Mapura Studios and has made a huge amount of progress in his drawing ability over the past 7 weeks.   Khi came into the class feeling shy about his drawing, however, within the short time he has been here, has become more confident in his drawing and painting practice, and creates refined images of the body and space that only focus on the essential information, eliminating details which might distract from the overall reading of the work.
