New Zealand Sign Language Week

New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) became an officially recognised language in 2006, alongside Te Reo. Each year New Zealand Sign Language Week organised by Deaf Aotearoa helps promote the language as well as raise awareness about New Zealand’s Deaf community and the issues and challenges its members face each day.

Deaf Aotearoa will be providing opportunities for schools, health care professionals, businesses and organisations to get involved, to develop more of an awareness of New Zealand sign language. One such opportunity is to register a free 45 minute taster class. It’s a great way to foster team building within organisations and schools.
