Māpura artists talk about their work.
“The painting is of a lake in Northern Ireland, from a photograph which my daughter took when she visited there.
It’s a reflective place.
I loved painting it, although I was daunted by the thought of painting a landscape at first.
The lonely swan: it’s as much about what is happening outside the frame as inside. A male swan to the left of the frame was thinking of her.
It’s special to be celebrated as a women artist.”
Tui has been making art since she was a young girl aged 5. She began by tracing magazines which lead to an enjoyment and interest in drawing people’s portraits.
