Shannon Silcock
Art Therapist/Art Tutor

MSc Art Therapy, BFA

Shannon graduated from Dunedin School of Art in 1997, with a BFA in painting.

She left to live in Japan and the UK in the early 2000's and continued to paint while employed in various roles, often with older people and those living with disabilities.

In 2007 she completed an MSc Art Therapy at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, combining an interest and desire to work with people, and her passion for art.

Having spent her final clinical placement in Edinburgh men's prison, on graduation she continued to work there, as well as with abuse and youth services in Aberdeen.

She returned to NZ in 2012 and has since largely worked as an addictions practitioner. Within this role she and a colleague developed and delivered an art therapy programme for a dual diagnosis rehabilitation service.

Having been on maternity leave since late 2017 to have a daughter, Esther, Shannon is excited to join the inclusive and creative environment at Mapura studios.

She continues to enjoy painting and drawing in her spare time.
