Sylvia Claire Harris
Senior Art Therapist
BFA( Hons), MAAT Clinical( Hons) AThR
Sylvia Harris graduated from Massey University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Painting. During this time she became passionate about the correlation between mental health and creativity. Over the next few years she worked predominately with children with ASD in various community support organisations (including IHC in New Zealand and Autism Initiatives in Northern Ireland).
In 2011 Sylvia completed her Masters Degree in Arts Therapy (Clinical) from Whitecliffe College of Fine Arts and Design, Auckland. As an intern she provided individual Arts Therapy for children and their families at a trauma/abuse counselling service in West Auckland. She has also worked as a scenic painter in the film industry.
Sylvia enjoys working alongside others to help them express themselves creatively through the exploration of various media. She is constantly in awe of the healing power of the creative process especially within a group context.
She loves the atmosphere at Māpura and is excited to be surrounded by all the creative people in the studio. As a painter she delights in spontaneity and using found organic objects as inspiration.
