Allyson Hamblett interviews fellow musician
Thais Nesbitt
Thais Nesbitt has been part of Mapura Music for 3 years.
She likes playing Blues, classical (especially Baroque), folk and pop music.
“The songs I write are usually classical, blues, folk and pop. I also do arrangements of songs, “ says Thais.
Thais is inspired by songs she likes, and her feelings and experiences. Thais used to play in orchestras. “I study cello, piano and drums. I work part time. I enjoy physical activities: swimming, walking, cycling and yoga. I like to bake.”

Thais enjoys seeing the people in the group and jamming with them.
“I like the concerts. I like it when Stefan and the other helpers play music with us. Everyone is kind and helpful.”
“I am more confident about performing. I think I am better at improvising music with other people.”
If Thais was describing Māpura to friends, she would say “I would tell them that it is a fun place where you can hang out and be yourself. There is no pressure.”
“Anyone can make music if they have the desire and nerve to have a go.”
– Music and art tutor Stefan Neville. Māpura Music is a collaborative programme open to all ages and abilities. No musical experience or skill is necessary, just a ‘give it a go’ attitude and a willingness to explore sound and creativity in a supportive and fun environment.
