It’s National Volunteer Week!
This week we’re celebrating our incredible volunteers – and today, we shine a light on the wonderful Pala Fisher!
Pala volunteers in our Thursday morning Leading a Creative Life class — and she travels all the way from Waiheke Island to be in the studio by 9:00am. Now that’s dedication!
She’s a mum, a teacher aide at Waiheke Primary, and currently in her third year of a Masters in Creative Art Therapy at Whitecliffe, working on her dissertation. Her creative journey includes working as a Clown Doctor at Starship Children’s Hospital, training as a contemporary dancer, and working as a sculptor.
Pala brings all that energy, creativity, and care to her work with our artists – many of whom are stroke survivors or living with brain injuries.
“It’s really wonderful seeing people committed to their own healing, and their creative practice. For me, getting on a ferry is easy. It’s inspiring seeing the artists turning up every week – they all have mobility impairments so it’s humbling seeing the energy and effort it takes to get here.”
Pala, we are so grateful for your warmth, empathy and commitment. Thank you for everything you bring to Māpura Studios.
