Meet Ryan – One of Our Amazing Volunteers!
As part of National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the wonderful people who help make Māpura Studios the special place it is. Today, we’d love to introduce you to Ryan Fisk.
Ryan has been volunteering in our Thursday afternoon Open Studio Three class for over a year. He brings kindness, calm, and a thoughtful presence to the studio — qualities that come from his deep interest in creative arts therapy and yoga.
Currently studying post-grad Creative Arts Therapy at Whitecliffe, Ryan also has a passion for yoga, not just the movement but the meditation and philosophy behind it too. He sees strong links between creativity and yoga — both, he says, are pathways to well-being.

The painting Kirsten’s working on is called “Taylor Swift Debut Reputation”.
The top part comprises of lyrics from the Taylor Swift song,
“Picture to Burn”, and the lower part is a quote from the singer.
The colours in the painting are based on colours from Taylor Swift’s on-stage costumes.

“The space we create here at Māpura allows people to express and be themselves,” says Ryan. “You can let go of needing a specific outcome and just enjoy the creative process. People can simply be. That’s why I love it.”
Before this chapter, Ryan studied psychology and anthropology and worked in IT — a journey that’s led to a uniquely grounded and thoughtful approach to supporting others.
Thank you, Ryan, for the heart and energy you bring to Māpura. We’re so lucky to have you!
